We take a holistic approach when evaluating our clients’ circumstances by engaging our clients’ other trusted advisors such as accountants, financial planners and insurance brokers. We have a particular focus on complex estate, succession and superannuation planning and regularly advise on intergenerational family farm succession planning through our regional offices.
Making proper arrangements about your estate is one of the most important things that you can do for your family. It provides financial certainty at a time when your family faces emotional distress and bereavement. All too often people put off arranging their affairs, thinking they will have plenty of time in the future to sort everything out. The most prudent plan is to act now before it’s too late.
We offer a broad range of services required to ensure a smooth and tax effective transition of assets between generations. This includes superannuation planning and structuring, taxation advice, creating and amending family trusts, drafting wills, including testamentary trust wills, Powers of Attorney and Advance Care Directives. We have the expertise to assist clients with simple requirements up to the very complex.
Mellor Olsson regularly assists executors with the administration of deceased estates and offers to act as executors, if required. We recognise that often it is difficult to be burdened with the responsibility of administering an estate so soon after a death. We take the stress and complexity out of the administration process. We can assist to apply for a grant of probate, transfer property, redeem investments and deal with superannuation assets.
In the event that an estate is contested, we have an experienced team dedicated to providing advice and guidance on these claims. We advise beneficiaries on whether they are entitled to make a claim against an estate for greater provision and also assist executors and other beneficiaries in defending or negotiating these claims.
