Elizabeth
Elizabeth joined Mellor Olsson in 2004 in the Commercial Litigation Division and has over 23 years of experience as a litigator. She obtained a Master of Laws in 1999 from The University of Adelaide, focusing on litigation and in particular, the role of Standards in product liability law. Elizabeth is a third generation of Olssons to work for the firm.
As part of her practice, she specialises in employment law, advising on employment contracts, both their terms and conditions, and their termination. In addition, she advises on occupational health, safety and welfare issues. The latter includes defending employers in industrial prosecutions for work place injuries, the penalties for which can carry significant fines.
For many years she has advised in personal injury litigation, and has acted for the victims of the 1983 Ash Wednesday Bushfire, as well as brain injury and other serious injury claimants. Elizabeth also acts on a wide range of litigation issues, including commercial disputes, constructive trusts and de facto property disputes.
With an interest in all aspects of product liability law, Elizabeth advises on and acts in litigation related to Trade Practices Act issues, State consumer law issues, product recalls, negligence, misrepresentation and claims arising from defective goods.
A regular contributor to various legal publications, Elizabeth has authored chapters in a legal loose leaf publication, and for many years has been Chair of The Law Society’s Bulletin Committee.
She is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of South Australia, the Australian Labour Law Association and the Industrial Relations Committee of the Law Society of SA.
Involved in amateur theatre for over 25 years, Elizabeth was President of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of South Australia from 2002 to 2007 and is an Honorary Life Member of the Society.
