Joanna joined Mellor Olsson in 2003 following completion of her law degree with Honours at Adelaide University. She has since joined the partnership team where she specialises in Corporate Governance, Injury Claims and Employment Law.
Joanna is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Grad. Dip.) and a Facilitator for the Australian Institute of Company Directors: Company Directors Course for Module 3 "The Directors' Duties and Responsibilities" and Module 4 "The Board's Legal Environment". In 2018, Joanna was recognised as one of South Australia's leading young business entrepreneurs in the inaugural InDaily 40 under 40 awards.
Combining her skills and experience in governance and employment law, Joanna conducts internal investigations on behalf of employers. This involves identifying and managing risks, the development of policies, procedures and structures, reporting findings and recommendations to stakeholders and liaising with external third parties, such as government agencies, on behalf of clients.
She frequently consults to businesses and industry on corporate governance and directors' duties and also provides training in these areas at both board and individual level. Joanna regularly undertakes Board and Director performance evaluations and structure reviews. Joanna is currently a member of the Player Payment Investigation Committee of the SANFL. Her previous board experience includes as Chair of Australian Vignerons (formerly Wine Grape Growers Australia), Brian Injury South Australia and the Julia Farr Housing Association and Director positions with Adelaide University Business School Advisory Board, Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board, Uniting Communities and Crime Stoppers SA.
