Brain Injury Awareness week 2017

This week (21 – 27 August 2017) marks Brain Injury Awareness week across Australia. Brain Injury is far more common and prevalent in society than many realise.

Did you know that:

  • Over 700,000 Australians have a brain injury which impacts their lives through ‘activity limitations’ and ‘participation restrictions’;
  • Three in Four of those are aged 65 or under;
  • Two out of Three acquired their brain injury before the age of 25; and
  • ¾ of people with a brain injury are men.

A stroke is the leading cause of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), followed by trauma. Most Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s) are caused by falls but one in three occurs as a result of a motor vehicle accident and one in six is caused by assault. These statistics show that regardless of your age, fitness or health levels, you or a loved one could, one day, find yourselves dealing with a brain injury.

Our Personal Injury lawyers work with people suffering from an ABI regularly and often help them and their families in ensuring they get the support and assistance they need. To celebrate Brain Injury Awareness week, we’ll be speaking to local organisations about the work they do and how it can help to make a difference.
